Distinguished Faculty Lecture: Flashpoints Of Flight by Dr. Sara Hillin
FALL 2017
On Tuesday October 3rd, Dr. Sara Hillin presented her distinguished faculty lecture titled Flashpoints on Flight. It informed listeners about the identities and accomplishments of female aviators throughout history. Growing up, I always admired Amelia Erhart for her achievements as a woman in aviation. Thanks to Dr. Hillin, I now have a longer list of role models to look up to. I enjoyed learning about female pilots and how their careers established platforms for them to share their thoughts and voice their opinions. Dr. Hillin was incredibly well spoken and easy to listen to.
HSA Halloween Party
FALL 2017
On October 27th, 2017 the Honors Student Association held quite the fantastic Halloween Party. Complete with a costume contest, free food, and plenty of games, the event was the perfect beginning to a fun "Halloweekend." I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and appreciated the opportunity to spend a few hours of fun with dear friends.
Pizza with the Professor
SPRING 2018
On April 10, 2018, I had the opportunity to enjoy pizza from New York Pizza and Pasta with Professor Craig Escamilla, Professor Jeff Dyson, and a few other honors students. It was a pleasant (and delicious) lunch over some friendly conversation about Lamar University, The South East Texas community, and the life as College of Business students. I appreciated getting to make new friends as well as share a meal with old ones.
Partner's in the Parks: Bryce Canyon
SUMMER 2019
On June 23, 2019 I traveled 1,100 miles for my first ever national park experience. The National Collegiate Honors Association's Partner's in the Parks Program provided a week long adventure across Bryce Canyon in the state of Utah. Along with a group of other students from across the country, I studied subjects like geology, astronomy, nutrition, and much more. I will never forget the beauty of Bryce Canyon as long as I live, nor will I let go of the memories made and the friendships developed. Thank you, Partner's in the Parks!
