Mauritius
Fall 2017
On October 5, 2017 Lamar University held opening night for its production of Mauritius. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting a play about stamps could be. The plot along with the talented actors had me on the edge of my seat the entire evening. If you ever get the chance to see Mauritius, I would definitely recommend it. I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and I look forward to attending Lamar University productions in the future.
Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike
Fall 2017
On November 11th, I attended the Saturday evening performance of Lamar University's production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. To be kind, I will say that it was not the best play I have ever seen. However, the set was well put together, and I definitely got a few good laughs. It was a pleasant enough way to spend the evening with a few wonderful friends.
"Fall and Recovery"
Fall 2017
On December 1, 2017 I had the opportunity to experience the "Fall and Recovery," dance concert. The concert consisted of 14 absolutely fantastic dance pieces that varied in genre of dance, theme, and emotion. I was thoroughly impressed and entertained. Bravo to the students that choreographed and performed. I can hardly wait for the next Lamar dance concert.
"Dance Unleashed"
Spring 2018
On March 23, 2018, The Lamar University Theatre and Dance Department put on yet another wonderful show. I was able to see one of my dearest friends, Ashley Borel, perform, and the pieces were all very well done. The concert also included performance by Taiwanese dancers, which I enjoyed very much. Lamar University dance concerts are always a great time and never fail to impress me!
Dishman Art Museum Homecoming Extravaganza
Fall 2018
On September 22nd, 2018, the Dishman Art Museum on campus hosted a lovely event in part of the University's Homecoming Festivities. The first floor of the museum housed an exhibit of photographs meant to capture the Texan homecoming mum culture. The second floor exhibit consisted of pieces created by Lamar University's own art student while studying abroad in Japan. There was an incredible saxophone player providing live entertainment for guests, and I loved every moment!
Ghosts
Fall 2018
The Lamar Theater and Dance Department showcased their rendition of Ghosts on November 8, 2019. This play was hosted at the larger university theater as opposed to the smaller black box theater that has been utilized in previous shows, and I really appreciated the change in setting. The play itself was great! I was happy to see returning faces on stage. Costumes, lighting, and acting were all nicely done.
"Fall and Recovery"
Fall 2018
Thanks to generous tickets provided by the honors college, I was able to see the annual Fall and Recovery dance concert hosted by the Lamar Department of Theater and Dance. This semester's concert offered much more experimentation and variation as far as production and choreography than I have seen at Lamar before. Not every piece may have been my cup of tea, but I can always appreciate artistic risk taking! It is refreshing to observe our arts department branch out and try new things. As always, the student dancers were fantastic!
The Birds
Spring 2019
The Lamar Department of Theater and Dance chose a remarkable play to open the Spring season on Thursday February 7, 2019. In short, I will say that I was blown away. The Birds just might be my favorite production that I have been able to see during my years at Lamar. The four person cast truly delivered. Bravo!
The Comedy of Errors
Spring 2019
My relationship with William Shakespeare has always been complicated. However, the Lamar University Department of Theater and Dance successfully swayed my opinion on March 21, 2019. The Comedy of Errors provided some well needed laughs. The talent at Lamar seems to be getting better and better with each show. The department has certainly earned a life-long supporter.
"Dance Unleashed"
Spring 2019
Despite a hectic schedule, I am glad that I was able to catch the Lamar University semester dance concert on April 12, 2019. This show seemed shorter than others, but perhaps that is due to my inability to get enough of our student dancers at Lamar! The variety of dance styles along with both fresh and familiar faces provided a pleasant experience as always.
Study Abroad: Alicante, Spain
Spring 2020
The College of Business Winter in Spain study abroad program allowed me to put my passport to use for the first time ever, flying across the ocean for two weeks January 5th - January 18th, 2020. What a way to begin the new year! Accompanied by both graduate and undergraduate students across several major departments within the College of Business along with Prof. Paul Latiolais and Prof. Gevorg Sargsyan, we enjoyed international business facilities tours while attending course seminars at the University of Alicante in the evenings. Pictured here, my favorite experience included an invitation the European Union Intellectual property office, followed closely by delicious meals and beautiful historical architecture.
